Rosatom, Norilsk Nickel JV wins license for large lithium deposit

MOSCOW, Feb 8 (PRIME) -- Polar Lithium, a joint venture (JV) between Rosatom and Norilsk Nickel, has received a license to develop the Kolmozerskoye lithium deposit in the Murmansk Region, Norilsk Nickel said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Polar Lithium, a collaboration between Nornickel and Rosatom’s mining division, has been awarded the exclusive right to develop Kolmozerskoye, Russia’s largest lithium deposit," the statement read.

The deposit contains 18.9% of Russia’s lithium reserves, or 843,645 tonnes of lithium oxide registered as of the beginning of 2021. The forecasted reserves under P1 amount to 13.5 million tonnes of ore and 152,600 tonnes of lithium oxide.
